Therapy

When a person calls for counseling I am sensitive about what the person's goals are, and how far the person wants to go down the road of change. Many people are happy with short term resolution to issues or patterns. Others want to spend more time delving into context and deeper issues. Though there is not a clear line between counseling and therapy in every context, for ease of clarification, therapy tends to be a much longer process and works for deeper second and third level changes.

Many people are helped to resolve the biggest issue they face in a short time, and so have the energy and motivation to tackle deeper issues without professional help. Others like the idea of someone who gets to know them deeply, and is able to sort out conflicted areas of life and mental, spiritual, and emotional healing or understanding with long term therapy. There is no right way, just what you feel is necessary for your growth. Evaluating the therapy and treatment with me at every stage is part of the therapeutic and counseling process.

Finding solutions, strategizing for transformation, healing marital communication, or beginning to recover from addictions would benefit from Brief Therapy Counseling or Solutions Focused Counseling. Clinical depression, compulsions, PTSD, childhood trauma, and relapse prevention are examples of issues that would benefit from a variety of emotional, transformational, and pscyhotherapeutic therapies. Not everyone responds the same way or in the same time frame. Not everyone has or wants to spend the time, energy, money, or emotions to do the work of therapy. That's OK! My role in your life is to help you discover incredible new ways to live and cope. We are all in a process of discovery!

Because I have dual training in a clinical setting and a theological seminary, I would hope that I could understand the many strengths and assets you have, and to help you build a holistic context for your healing.
